Haywood looking to grow strong Sydney United 58 Legacy

In November 2021, Sydney United 58 announced a new coach for the 2022 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s season – former Director of Football at Northbridge FC and the Technical Director at Macarthur FC Joe Haywood.
Having been at the helm of the squad for several months now, Haywood is ready to take on the league for the upcoming season.
While the team will inevitably start a new era under new leadership, Haywood has explained that he intends to lean on the strong foundations of the squad and respectable history of the club in 2022.
“The club’s done well over the past couple of years so I haven’t come in to write a new story, so to speak,” he explained.
“The club’s had a history of doing well within the division, and we’ve still got a strong squad.
“We’ve added some new players recently with Taisei [Kaneko] and Kyle Cimenti that have added a bit of youth to the team that we have already.
“We’ve got a strong squad that we feel can compete within the division so we’re happy where we are, and we’re excited for round one against Wollongong.”
Coming into the already established and successful team environment that is Sydney United 58, Haywood has been working on building trust throughout the preseason to help maintain the culture within the squad.
“I think now, you know, the players are trusting me and I’m trusting them,” he said.
“We’re starting to get some results, but importantly, we’re starting to play some good football.”
With a solid squad, a respected club history and a new coaching team, Sydney United 58 are ready to wreak havoc on the competition in 2022.
“The club’s got a good history and a strong history in NPL1 in terms of what they’re about as a club, what their aim is as a club, and the way that they try and play football,” he explained.
“The club wants to be the best, they strive to be the best on and off the field.
“I think this year we’ve got a good squad that can compete and our aim is to try and win as many games, if not every game, throughout the season.
“We go into every game believing that we can win, we set ourselves up to win and we’ll just see where we’ll be at the end of the year.”
Haywood will also be able to call upon the NPL NSW Men’s expertise of two players in the club’s assistants Nick Stavroulakis and Jason Trifiro.
Stavroulakis, a former United 58 skipper and Trifiro, a well known development coach will no doubt add further assistance to a club renowned for its historic successes in NSW’s top tier competition.
